The Research Data Champion program aims to build a collaborative and diverse community of research data experts to drive uptake of good research data management practice and improve discipline-specific research data management support for Curtin researchers.
The program focuses on training, promotion and advocacy for research reproducibility; good research data management practice; data management planning; and FAIR data principles.
Research Data Champions can give research data management advice in their discipline, or refer queries to the appropriate support areas.
To learn more about the program, contact researchdata@curtin.edu.au.

Email: stephen.ball@curtin.edu.au
Areas of expertise:
Epidemiology, prehospital research, statistics, spatial data analysis and database programming.
Why I'm involved:
To assist my role as data security manager for our research group, and to be able help others in my School with data management issues.

Associate Professor Felix Chan
Associate Professor, School of Economics, Finance and Property
Faculty of Business and Law

Email: Felix.Chan@cbs.curtin.edu.au
Areas of expertise:
Econometrics, time series, multi-dimensional panel data, predictive analytics and risk modelling.
Why I'm involved:
As the size and complexity of data increase, it is obvious that a robust approach to ensure data integrity and transparency, which respecting individual privacy, is essential to ensure trust, reproducibility and the credibility of our research. I see the promotion of such practice the main role of a Research Data Champion.

Dr Hadrien Devillepoix
Research Associate, School of Earth and Planetary Sciences
Faculty of Science and Engineering
Email: Hadrien.Devillepoix@curtin.edu.au
Areas of expertise:
Planetary science and astronomy. In charge of science and responsible for the data product of the Global Fireball Observatory (4.5 TB of raw data collected per day).
Why I'm involved:
I want to help other researchers in my area make their datasets discoverable and re-usable in the future, even after the project is finished. Eager to learn about best practices and solutions.

Dr Sean Lee
Lecturer, School of Marketing
Faculty of Business and Law
Phone: 08 9266 4389
Email: Sean.Lee@curtin.edu.au
Areas of expertise:
Consumer research in marketing, tourism and hospitality, quantitative research methods and programs (SPSS, AMOS, MPLUS, SMART-PLS) and experimental research methods.
Why I'm involved:
Marketing is becoming an increasingly data-driven industry requiring the collation of large amounts of data; and data is also the ‘bread and butter’ of researchers. Thus, it is highly important that researchers, both emerging and experienced, pay special attention to integrity in the acquisition, validation, storage, protection, and processing of this data. I am keen to be able to learn about the various facets of research data management and to be able to share this knowledge with my colleagues and students.

Dr Ranjodh B.Singh
Lecturer, School of Economics, Finance and Property
Faculty of Business and Law
Phone: 08 9266 4409
Email: Ranjodh.Singh@curtin.edu.au
Areas of expertise:
Statistics, econometrics and behavioural modelling.
Why I'm involved:
Data is accumulating at a rate never seen before, we need to adopt best practises to adopt it.

Dr Sharon Smart
Lecturer, School of Occupational Therapy, Social Work and Speech Pathology
Faculty of Health Sciences
Phone: 08 9266 3086
Email: Sharon.Smart@curtin.edu.au
Areas of expertise:
Surveys, interviews, demand driven research and information organisation.
Why I'm involved:
To promote improved sharing of data, materials and equipment within the faculty and university. I am also interested to learn and share efficient ways to collect manage and store data effectively and efficiently.

Dr Hollie White
Lecturer, School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry
Faculty of Humanities
Phone: 08 9266 7631
Email: Hollie.White@curtin.edu.au
Areas of expertise:
Metadata, information organisation, library collections, representation and social justice and mixed methods research.
Why I'm involved:
As a former librarian, I know how important data sharing and open data is to social justice and a free society. I'm now a lecturer and researcher in the Humanities, so I want to learn the best approaches to promote the library's data-related programs in order to help my academic collegues who haven't had the same experiences.
