There are 3 types of study areas available in the Library to accommodate the various needs of students.
Remember:
Silent areas: No talking is allowed. These areas on Levels 4, 5 and 6 are for individual study only. They are indicated on maps in the notice boards by the lifts and in the floorplans. All other study areas in the library are Quiet areas.
Quiet Areas: Noise must be kept to a minimum. Talking is allowed but it must not disturb others. Our aim is to provide a non-disruptive environment conducive to study. This includes keeping noise to a minimum.
Group work areas: Talking is allowed but must not disturb others. This includes keeping noise to a minimum.
lounge @ your library: This is a casual lounge area on Level 2. Food and drink are permitted in the lounge, unlike elsewhere in the library. Vending machines provide a variety of drinks and snacks in this room.
Within the Lounge, there are booths with computers for group discussions. Other facilities provided are scanners, a photocopier, networked printing and computers for individual use.
There is also comfortable seating for casual reading or discussion. The wide-screen television transmits cable news services among other programs. The audio for the news can be heard on 106.8FM on any FM band radio.
News room: This provides a relaxed area that allows students and staff to catch up on news from overseas. The SBS Foreign News Channel is broadcast on a large plasma screen and covers news in Indonesian, Russian, Japanese, German and many other languages. A news program is posted on the new room door.
Group study rooms are available for use by groups on Levels 4, 5 and 6 of the library. Groups must be a minimum of three and a maximum of eight persons.
Group study rooms with computers are available on Levels 5 and 6 for Curtin staff and student use. Priority will be given to groups wishing to use these computers. These rooms cannot be booked. Computers for individual use are available on all levels in the Library.
Wired Laptop Room: Room 429 on Level 4 has been set up for students who want to use the Curtin electronic network on their laptops and take advantage of the available power points. In this room, students are able to access the electronic network by plugging a blue Ethernet cable into the Ethernet slot in their laptops. Power points may also be used to charge PDAs and other electronic devices.
Individual study rooms: Rooms 651 to 657 on Level 6 are available on a first-come first-served basis.
Rooms 658 to 661 on Level 6 can be reserved for Curtin staff and visiting academics. They may be booked for 2 weeks at a time. A renewal of a further 2 weeks is permitted, subject to demand.
