Who may borrow?

Current students and staff of the universities listed above. In addition the borrowing scheme is extended to allow reciprocal borrowing between the University of Notre Dame and Murdoch University and Edith Cowan University. Only borrowers of good standing at their home library may apply for registration as a reciprocal borrower. Membership is personal and not transferable.

How do I apply?

There are two ways to apply: either by applying online from any Internet-connected computer, or directly by visiting each library.

1. NEW ONLINE REGISTRATION! If you are a Curtin, ECU, Murdoch or UWA student or staff member, you can now register online before travelling to these libraries. Go to the following website for more information and to register:
http://wagul.curtin.edu.au/reciprocal_registration.html

2. To apply directly you need to personally visit each library from which you wish to borrow and present your home university ID card and provide your university email address.

Is registration permanent?

No. Borrowing privileges expire on the 28th February of the following year. Proof of continued enrolment or employment is required to renew your registration each year.

How many items may I borrow?

You may have up to 12 items on loan at any one time from each of the libraries of the universities mentioned above.

Some items are not available for loan, or have special conditions. Requests for interlibrary loans should be made at the home library.

What is the loan period?

Items other than 3-Day Loan and Reserve items are loaned out to you for 6 weeks at a time.

If the items you borrowed are due for return and you wish to keep them longer, you can renew them online using 'Borrower Information' on the Curtin Library Catalogue. You will need your barcode number and your 4-digit Library PIN to access your borrower information.

An item can be renewed more than once subject to recall of that item. The new due date will be displayed to confirm the renewal. Overdue items cannot be renewed online, however a telephone renewal may be possible. Telephone renewals are available by phoning +61 8 9266 3281. Please remember that all items are subject to recall despite the stipulated due-back date.

How will Curtin University Library communicate with me?

All Library borrowers will receive Library notices via email. Please check Library communications regularly, and keep your contact details updated. Your contact details can be updated by notifying the Library on (08) 9266 7166.

How should borrowed items be returned?

You must return materials to the library from which you borrowed them. Penalties and fines for late return of material are at the discretion of the lending library. Failure to comply with rules and practices of a host library may also entail sanctions at your home library.

WARNING: Where a book is not returned, your home library will eventually be billed for the replacement cost of the book plus an administration cost. Once this has happened you will be required to reimburse to your own library any amounts paid on your behalf.
Remember that you are a guest at the library which allows you reciprocal borrowing rights. Its rules may not be the same as those of your own library, so be sure to make yourself familiar with them, and take care to observe them. Borrowing may be refused, or withdrawn from, any person who fails to observe the reasonable conditions which apply.

Click this link for the official regulations in 'Library Use-Policy and Procedures'.

Computer access at Curtin

Students of UWA, ECU or Murdoch University can now log in and use computers in Curtin libraries.

This means you can now use software on the Library computers such as Word and Excel, and access your home university web sites and databases. However, access to other external sites such as Google or Hotmail is unavailable due to Curtin Web Access Management restrictions.

To use the Library computers at Curtin, you just need to select your home institution from the drop down menu in the login screen, and login using your usual ID and password.

Additional Services

Registered reciprocal borrowers are now eligible to access a range of on site databases. Access to these databases is available from within the A-Z listing on the Library webpage.

A range of free databases is also available through the A-Z listing and these resources may be accessed either on site or off campus. For assistance please check with the Enquiries Desk on Level 2 of the Robertson Library, or the desk of any regional site library, or phone (08) 9266 7166.
