A.  The act or process of deceiving or misleading, especially by concealing the truth.
B.  The use of false representations to gain an unjust advantage.
C.  The act or instance of taking and using the thoughts, writings, inventions, etc., of another person as one's own.



Answer:

C. is the best definition of plagiarism - using another's ideas as your own.

A. is a definition of DECEIT  and B. is a definition of FRAUD. Both are aspects of plagiarism.


Question 2. Why is referencing so important?

A.  To enable your tutor to verify your references
B.  To protect yourself from charges of plagiarism
C.  Both of the above



Answer:

C. - both is the best answer. If you reference all your sources you cannot be accused of plagiarising and your tutor can find your information source if he/she wants to.


Question 3. Where do you place an in-text citation?

A.  In the reference list or bibliography at the end of your assignment
B.  Within the text of your assignment
C.  At the bottom of the page as a footnote



Answer:

B. is correct. An in-text citation is found within the essay, not at the end (A- a reference list) or at  the bottom of the page (B. footnotes).
