QR codes
QR (Quick Response) codes are a special type of barcode which hold encoded information like text and links to the Internet. The codes are read by a barcode reader in a camera phone.
Where can I find them in the library?
QR codes can be found across all levels of the library linking to useful information like the LibGuides, Library Catalogue and Library mobile website.
What do I have to do to use them?
You need to have a QR code reader on your mobile phone. QR code readers will either be included in a phone’s software or need to be downloaded from the Internet. To use a QR code you will need to open the QR code reader on your phone and hold the phone so all of the QR code is visible on the screen. The application will recognise the code and take you to a link or you will need to take a photo of the code which will then redirect to a link.
Where can I get a QR code reader?
If you don't have a QR code reader on your phone you may be able to download one from the Internet. If you have an iPhone you can search the App Store, an Android Phone then investigate the Android Market or a Windows Phone then the Windows Marketplace. When looking for a QR code reader on the Internet search for ‘QR Code’, then select one of the applications and download.
