Requesting items on loan from another library user

Student borrowing books

If the item you want to borrow is on loan to another person, you can request it through the library catalogue.

By requesting an item currently on loan, the person who has the item will have to return it at an earlier time than the original due date. This means that you will have access to the item earlier than if you waited for them to return it.

If Robertson Library was chosen as the pickup location, a requested item - after it is returned by the initial borrower - will be held for you at the level 2 Reserve on the hold shelves. You will recieve an email notice advising that your item is available for collection.

If you need assistance locating or borrowing the hold item, please ask the staff at the level 2 Enquiries Desk.

You may not be able to request an item if:

  • you already have a request on another copy of the same item
  • your borrowing privileges have been suspended - perhaps you are no longer enrolled, you have an overdue item, or you have fines on your library account which prevent you from borrowing
  • the item is a three day loan
  • the item is listed as being available on the shelves of the library you wish to pick it up from. In this case, you need to retrieve it from the shelf for yourself.
