Responsibilities and interests

My responsibilities as the library's Associate Director, Corporate Services encompass:

Quality - Coordinating, documenting and monitoring the library’s quality program including its planning and performance frameworks, quality initiatives and benchmarking activities.

Corporate resources – Providing leadership, advice and support to the library on finance, human resources, facilities, records and risk management.

Corporate communications – Ensuring that the library communicates effectively with its clients, stakeholders and staff.

The position allows me to draw on my diverse background in universities – in and outside libraries.

I initially joined the Curtin University Library in January 1994 as Serials Librarian. Subsequently positions have included:

  • Bibliographic Services Librarian (in charge of the library’s acquisitions, serials and cataloguing areas)
  • Strategic Initiatives Librarian (working on projects such as the establishment of the e-Reserve, online learning and copyright education)
  • Quality, Planning and Research Librarian

Prior to coming to Curtin, I worked for six years at the Main Library, Monash University - initially as a Subject Librarian, then as Lending Services Librarian, and later as Deputy Humanities and Social Sciences Librarian.

Prior to becoming a librarian, I was employed for several years in a range of positions in educational institutions in the ACT, NSW and Victoria: sessional lecturer/tutor, research assistant, administrative officer, adviser to prospective students and admissions/student records/fees officer.

My academic background was in Anthropology: I completed my Bachelor of Arts with first class Honours at the University of Western Australia in the 1970's. My particular interest was in Southeast Asian studies.

My librarianship qualifications were undertaken at Monash University in the early 1980's where I gained a Master of Arts (Librarianship and Information Science). In 1983 I was awarded the Monash University Graduate School of Librarianship Blackwell's Scholarship.
